Penrhos Polish Village Redevelopment Plans Move Forward
Social housing provider ClwydAlyn has announced that demolition work at Penrhos Polish Village will soon begin. Extensive redevelopment at the site, will result in 107 much-needed, new homes in the rural village setting in Gwynedd.
Work will very soon be underway on the eagerly anticipated redevelopment of Penrhos Polish Village on the Llŷn Peninsula. The Polish Housing Society transferred all current properties on the site to ClwydAlyn as part of a merger arrangement; with a view to the redevelopment and regeneration of the community.
The former RAF air base was transformed into a residential village in the 1940s, by the Polish Housing Society, to accommodate Polish servicemen and women who stayed in the UK after World War II.
There is a rich heritage and vibrant community that exists at Penrhos, and to ensure that it remains a safe and happy place for residents for many years to come, the current site needs significant investment to bring it up to standard.
Phase one of the project will incorporate 44 energy-efficient, lifetime homes. These new homes will meet and exceed the current regulatory standards: Welsh Government Housing Quality Standard and Welsh Government Development Quality Requirements.
Built using innovative designs and modern methods of construction, the new homes will be super energy efficient and benefit from air source heat pumps, solar electricity panels with storage batteries and electric car charging facilities.
This first phase of the project has been made possible thanks to an investment from a Welsh Government grant, following discussions between ClwydAlyn, Cyngor Gwynedd and Welsh Government.
Ahead of the creation of the first phase of new homes, demolition of the disused properties will begin imminently. Required tree works have been scheduled to avoid the disturbance of birds, bats and local wildlife. And, as part of the development, there are plans to plant new trees, and carry out landscaping and ecology works.
A trusted local contractor based in Gwynedd; Williams Homes (Bala) has been appointed to redevelop Penrhos Polish Village, on behalf of ClwydAlyn and in partnership with Cyngor Gwynedd, the Welsh Government and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
Once complete, these new properties will be prioritised to current residents who already live at Penrhos Polish Village and people with low to medium care and support needs from the local community.
