On 2nd December, 13 families moved into their new homes on Edward Henry Street in Rhyl’s West End. The ClwydAlyn properties not only represent a milestone for community regeneration and sustainable living, but also for the future of the families who will now begin a new chapter of their lives.

The 13 new three-bed properties which have recently been completed in a three-story town-house style are a result of a partnership between ClwydAlyn, North Wales’s leading social homes provider, Denbighshire County Council, Welsh Government and NWPS Construction Ltd.

Hailed as a landmark project for modern housing solutions and paving the way for a greener and more inclusive future, the new homes have replaced outdated housing stock, which was not suitable for renovation. The development forms part of the Welsh Government’s Transformation of Towns Scheme, which includes the redevelopment of the West End of Rhyl.

As the first families settle into their homes, the atmosphere is one of hope and optimism. The scheme has brought much-needed, affordable family accommodation to Rhyl.

Key stakeholders were invited to look around the ground-breaking properties on Wednesday 27th November and were impressed by the attention to detail and the emphasis on sustainable design.

Five of the homes fall into the conservation area. Carefully designed and crafted facades replicate those of the original townhouses which stood on Edward Henry Street in 1929, when it was sketched by famous urban landscape artist LS Lowry. These homes offer a high standard of modern living, while preserving the area’s rich heritage and architectural style.

All the new timber-framed properties have been designed as ‘lifetime homes’, fully futureproofed to adapt to the changing needs of residents and fitted with accessible wetrooms. In addition, all 13 builds feature air source heat pumps, solar electricity panels, and high levels of insulation plus EV charging points. These measures make the homes economical to run and ensure they are in-line with ClwydAlyn’s mission to tackle fuel poverty and minimise environmental impact.

ClwydAlyn revealed that the construction process has utilised local contractors and locally sourced, sustainable materials wherever possible.  In addition, these new homes meet and exceed the current regulatory standards set by Welsh Government Housing Quality Standard, Welsh Government Development Quality Requirements and Welsh Government Beautiful Homes and Spaces Standards.
