There were smiles all around, when the residents of Merton Place care home welcomed some small, fluffy visitors, and the excited school children who had helped to hatch them!
Pupils from Rydal Penrhos, located just minutes away from Merton Place care home in Colwyn Bay, have been eagerly watching over eggs in their classroom incubator, counting down days until the arrival of the chicks. When the eggs finally started to crack, and the tiny yellow chicks emerged, the children were keen to share the enjoyment with their elderly friends at Merton Place.
The visit is the latest in a series of regular intergenerational activities between children from the ‘Little Movers’ group at Rydal Penrhos and the residents at Merton Place. The visits allow the children and elderly residents to build significant connections and share moments of joy and learning.
Timing of the hatchlings couldn’t have been more perfect! With Spring in full bloom and Easter just around the corner, the chicks are a compelling symbol of new life and new beginnings.
Fluffy Visitors Spark Joy at Colwyn Bay Care Home

As the chicks continue to grow, they will move into the Rydal Penrhos gardens, where they will remain a charming part of the school community. With Rydal Penrhos pupils continually engaging in a wide range of educational activities, the residents of Merton Place can look forward to more exciting developments courtesy of their young visitors.
