Our Executive Director, Craig Sparrow recently participated in a conference in Cardiff focussed on addressing the critical issues of river pollution and phosphates. The Welsh Government (WG) summit served as a platform for discussions on tackling crucial environmental issues.

The event attracted key stakeholders and distinguished attendees, including The First Minister, Mark Drakeford, Minister for Climate, Julie James and Minster for Rural affairs, Lesley Griffiths. Their presence emphasised the importance of implementing sustainable practices and policies.

According to Craig, ClwydAlyn was selected to participate at the summit because of our excellent track record in the housing sector:

“We are seen as a top provider of affordable housing. We have excellent relations with Welsh Government and have provided many case studies on our sites affected by phosphates, to try and help Welsh Government officers drive solutions with partners to get building again and hit the minsters targets. At one point we had nearly 300 affordable homes stopped due to the issues with phosphates.”

Craig took part in conversations, exchanging ideas and strategies with experts and policy makers from Natural Resources Wales, Welsh Water, Government, and the Farming sector. The summit highlighted the need for collaboration to solve this pressing issue to protect our rivers and waterways.

WG Dep Director of Housing gave a presentation on progress in delivering housing projects with Craig highlighting ClwydAlyn’s experience and position. Key points that were made include: the work of the water companies, and the Farming community brought their unique perspective by giving an overview of sustainable approaches being adopted to protect waterways.

ClwydAlyn’s participation at the summit reinforces our commitment to working with partners and key stakeholders to address the challenge:

“As chair of the future homes strategic delivery group, we brought the issue to our sector and organised key people to update other housing associations across Wales. Ensuring the implications were raised at the highest levels and helping to unlock development sites.”
