A new report published by Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW), has praised Merton Place Care Home in Colwyn Bay for the ‘supportive approach of the staff’, consideration of ‘personal wishes and aspirations’ and ‘friendly, chatty and cheerful’ team.

The biannual report on Merton Place Care Home was published in February 2025, under the Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act 2016 (RISCA), which provides the statutory framework for the regulation and inspection of social care in Wales. The Report examines four specific areas:

  • Well-being
  • Care and Support
  • Environment
  • Leadership and Management

Owned and managed by ClwydAlyn, Merton Place offers 54 registered places, for elderly adults requiring residential, nursing or palliative care. It is a purpose-built care home, featuring modern facilities, with staff dedicated to delivering the highest standard of 24-hour care, support and companionship.

Following the inspection, which took place on 4 December 2024, CIW found that residents are happy living at Merton Place, with comprehensive personal plans ‘centred around how the person wants to have their care provided’. Praise was also focused on the space and décor, variety of activities available, high quality, nutritious food choices and the high standards of care, provided by the well-trained and responsive staff.

“We are delighted with the results of our recent CIW Inspection Report. It is testament to the dedication, compassion and hard work of every member of the Merton Place team, who are truly committed to delivering the best care. Ensuring that the well-being, comfort and safety of all our residents is paramount.

“Good quality nursing care for elderly adults is in high demand across North Wales. And we are pleased to be able to meet that requirement in Colwyn Bay, offering the best possible experiences for all our residents.

“We fully understand what a significant and emotional decision it is to entrust the care of a loved one to us and we take that responsibility incredibly seriously.

“We’d warmly invite anyone considering care options to visit Merton Place and see first-hand how happy and fulfilling life can be in a care home.

“Going forward, we look forward to continuing to work with CIW to ensure that all of our facilities are meeting and surpassing required standards.”
