Social Housing provider ClwydAlyn is celebrating National Apprenticeship Week (11-14 February 2025) by highlighting the vital importance of apprenticeships within its business and showcasing the diversity of apprenticeship and training opportunities within the housing sector.
Far from being limited to traditional trade roles, ClwydAlyn is embracing a wide range of apprenticeships. From roles including Housing Officers, Customer Advisers and Cooks to IT Technicians, today’s apprentices are working in various departments, bringing fresh perspectives, developing essential skills and building rewarding careers.
ClwydAlyn, based in St Asaph, currently supports a number of apprenticeships, pathways and career development opportunities for individuals wanting to gain hands-on experience, while learning from professionals.
Creating New Career Routes
Traditionally, apprenticeships in the housing sector have been associated with trade-based roles, such as plumbing, electrics and carpentry. However, the industry has evolved to offer opportunities that reflect the full range of skills needed to provide a modern, customer-focused organisation.
“We’re passionate about nurturing individuals and providing real opportunities for growth and development.”
Ben Mazzone, is currently completing a Degree apprenticeship whilst on an IT Pathway.
Why Choose a Career in Social Housing?
Working in social housing offers the chance to make a difference in people’s lives while developing skills in a fast-paced and evolving sector. Apprenticeship schemes, on-the-job-training opportunities and pathways provide a supportive environment, allowing individuals to learn and gain qualifications, without the burden of student debt.
Maintenance Coordinator, Wiktoria Jasieniewicz, came to ClwydAlyn through We Mind the Gap, on a work experience placement.
“I discovered a passion for admin and problem-solving. I enjoy working in a structured environment where everything runs smoothly, even on days when things don’t go to plan.
“This is a career I didn’t know I wanted, but I quickly realised it aligns perfectly with me as a person. Overseeing the plumbing and heating department has boosted my confidence and allowed me to grow in ways I never expected.”
Many of the organisation’s apprentices have gone on to build successful careers within the business; some securing permanent roles and progressing into more senior positions. By focusing on practical experience and tailored development, ClwydAlyn is ensuring that its workforce reflects the diversity and skills needed for the future.
