Residents who are set to move into a new independent living development in Welshpool, shared afternoon tea this week. The event offered members of the new community the opportunity to meet neighbours, discuss excitement about moving into a new home and pose any questions they had.
Neuadd Maldwyn is a new development of 66 one-and-two-bedroom apartments located in the centre of Welshpool. It is being built by Anwyl Partnerships on behalf of ClwydAlyn, along with Powys County Council, supported by, Welsh Government and Powys Teaching Health Board. Priority for available new homes at Neuadd Maldwyn has been given to residents from the Powys area, aged over 60 with assessed care or support needs. Ongoing housing management and ancillary services will be provided by ClwydAlyn. Powys County Council will take responsibility for on-site domiciliary care.
At the heart of the Neuadd Maldwyn development are the recognisable former council offices; Neo-Georgian Grade II listed buildings, completed in 1931. A sympathetic conversion of the original architecture, alongside newly constructed purpose-built homes, has created an impressive town-centre living complex. Residents will be able to enjoy communal facilities, a restaurant, parking and landscaping; all within walking distance of local amenities.
The afternoon tea was organised by ClwydAlyn. Residents met at Welshpool Townhall to enjoy a spread of sandwiches, sweet treats and hot drinks; whilst having the opportunity to chat to members of their new community.

Residents Enjoy Afternoon Tea
“We’ve always admired the lovely building that is Neudd Maldwyn - we even got married there! So as the development progressed, we decided to find out more.
“We didn’t really expect to find what we were looking for after living in a small, rural village but in fact it ticked so many boxes for us. The location is perfect being flat and central to amenities in town. The apartments themselves look lovely with the added security of access to care onsite, should we need it.
“We’re so looking forward to being able to walk out for coffee and meet friends and, with the train station just a few minutes away, having a day out at Aberystwyth in summer.
It’s a new chapter for us and one we’ll be making the most of!”
“We wanted to provide an informal opportunity for everyone to meet, get to know their neighbours and chat to key staff before moving day. It was a great event. Now we’re very much looking forward to handing over the homes to their new residents.”
The £11.6 million scheme will offer independent living, with tailored care and support available for those who need it. Homes for over 60s are in high-demand in Welshpool and Neuadd Maldwyn will offer stable and comfortable bases for individuals and couples.
