Therapy pony Sparkles paid a visit to residents at Merton Place elderly care home in Colwyn Bay, as part of a selection of exciting Christmas festivities.

Therapy animals can bring more than just cuddles to those lucky enough to interact with them. The activities team at Merton Place elderly care home in Colwyn Bay recognise the incredible ability animals have to bring joy, healing and ease feelings of loneliness.

A visit from Sparkles the pony is a much anticipated treat. Those residents who got the opportunity to meet Sparkles were delighted with the chance to spark a meaningful connection, interact and laugh with her and her owners Laura and Scarlett Owen.

Glenda, a resident at Merton Place enjoyed her interaction with the nine-year-old Shetland Pony.

“I think Sparkles is lovely; she’s just so calm. I was able to brush her, and she just stood there taking it all in. She’s so happy and quite used to meeting all these people. Look at the way she’s dressed up. I have thoroughly enjoyed it!
