ClwydAlyn recognised as one of the UK’s leading developers of energy efficient homes
North Wales based housing association, ClwydAlyn, has achieved one of the UK’s highest levels of new build homes completed to the top energy efficiency standard, known as EPC A, over the last 12 months.
In a survey conducted by Inside Housing of over 100 housing associations, ClwydAlyn was ranked fourth, having completed 162 new homes during 2023/24, 90% of which received an Energy Efficiency Certificate (EPC) Band A.
Homes with an EPC rating of A can mean a reduction of up to half the cost of heating bills when compared to homes with a B rating. The majority of ClwydAlyn’s new homes achieving this rating are low-carbon green homes, which is a key part of the organisation’s commitment to making home as affordable to heat as possible for residents as part of its mission to beat poverty.
Schemes that completed over the last 12 months include 52 new energy efficient homes at Hen Ysgol y Bont in Llangefni which have been built using greener technologies and innovative designs, and 63 new homes at the Glasdir site in Ruthin, which were constructed using low carbon technologies and modern construction methods.
We’re working hard with our partners to innovate when it comes to the design of our homes and the sustainable technologies that we use to achieve these high levels of energy efficiency, and this will continue to be a key priority for us going forward. It’s great to see ClwydAlyn ranking so highly for this work, but most importantly, we know that these homes are making a positive impact on the lives of our residents and it’s vital that as a sector we continue to drive up the number of EPC A rated homes across the UK to tackle the housing shortage.
The new build completions over the last 12 months are part of ClwydAlyn’s ambitious five year development programme of 1,500 new homes in North Wales by 2025 through an investment of £250m. The organisation has recently surpassed a key milestone of 1,000 new homes built.
Plans for more new homes are also being developed as part of its new five year plan launching in April 2025, which will maintain and build on the organisation’s strong commitment to low carbon, energy efficient homes for residents.
