Friday 26th July, key stakeholders from Welsh Government, Valley Community Council and local councillors gather to visit the newly completed environmentally friendly housing development by ClwydAlyn Housing in The Mart, Valley in Anglesey. This £10.4 million project, which created 55 affordable homes, is designed to combat fuel poverty and enhance residents’ wellbeing through energy efficiency measures.

These newly built homes, constructed by Williams Homes, range from one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom houses, featuring air source heat pumps, solar panels, and electric vehicle charging stations. The use of locally sourced sustainable materials when possible, further underscores the development’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

It was great to call by the old Valley Mill to see ClwydAlyn Housing Association and Isle of Anglesey County Council’s new development for myself.

They are good-quality homes, taking advantage of the most up-to-date environmental technology to ensure that the properties are as energy efficient as possible to respond to the climate crisis and keep bills down.

I wish everyone well who will now turn these houses into homes and the development into a community.

Cllr Ken Taylor and Cllr Gwilym O Jones of Anglesey County Council have closely monitored the progress of this development since its inception. Cllr Ken Taylor remarked: “It has been a privilege to witness this groundbreaking development unfold. The modern and attractive homes not only meet contemporary living standards but also significantly alleviate the residents’ stress by ensuring energy efficiency, especially in light of the recent cost and energy crises.”

Neil Tuck, Chair of Valley Community Council, emphasised the project’s importance of the development, noting: “This housing initiative is crucial for our area. We are pleased to see it not only meets regulatory standards but also excels in energy efficiency. We hope the tenants find joy and comfort in their new homes.”

Tom Boome from ClwydAlyn Housing expressed gratitude, saying: “We are immensely proud of this project and grateful for the support of the community and our partners. As we continue to build sustainable homes across North Wales, we invite others to join us in our mission.”

Kelly Davies-Williams, a resident of The Mart, said: “We’re so excited to have moved in; I love the design and layout of it. Living here will make a big difference to us in terms of saving on energy bills, as we were previously paying £320 a month on gas and electric.”
