The Polish Housing Society Merges with ClwydAlyn

The Polish Housing Society and the Penrhos Polish Home site in North Wales has transferred to ClywdAlyn as part of a merger arrangement.

The transfer, which follows a consultation process with staff and residents, sees ClwydAlyn take over running the Penrhos site, a 20-acre former RAF air base site which was transformed after world war II into a village for older Polish veterans.

The North Wales housing association, which owns over 6,000 homes and specialises in services for older people and the homeless alongside traditional social housing; is working with Gwynedd Council, the Health Board and Welsh Government to develop plans for new, high quality homes on the site.

As part of these plans, ClwydAlyn will also develop a business case for a new care home, following the announcement by PHS earlier this year of the phased closure of the current care home after a long period of financial and regulatory challenges.

Clare Budden, Chief Executive of ClwydAlyn said: “Today’s transfer follows strong partnership working between the PHS Board, ClwydAlyn, Gwynedd Council and Welsh Government to explore options to secure the long-term future of Penrhos, after a long period of uncertainty.

“We have been working closely with staff and residents over the last few months to help us understand the needs of residents so that we can shape future care and support services and develop high quality new homes that will preserve the proud Polish heritage at Penrhos.”
